The Groundwork for this historic ranch started in the 1950’s and took over 6 years of planning. Leo Shoemaker was the construction inspector.  Leo explained that it was built under the Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Program, the same program used with the McAdoo Dam and Coldwater Dam. Lee Simpson and his son Roger, along with their crew, worked on the construction 5 days a week for 10 months.

Lake was completed in 1967 and was named Lake Arrowhead for its shape. The date for the completion of the 1,250-foot-long dam is listed in the United States Dams File as 1968. It took 10 months alone for the dam to be constructed; it is 40 feet at its highest point.

Ronda Noland (granddaughter of the patriarch) along with her husband Kevin have been managers of this ranch since 2006.

The property is located between Pratt and Medicine Lodge, Kansas 1 hour from Wichita Airport.
